Obvara
Sometimes called “Baltic Raku”, Obvara is an Eastern European firing technique originated in the Baltic Region. The red-hot pieces are taken out of the kiln, then quickly immersed in a fermented brew and cooled down in a bucket of cold water.
Obvara pottery stays porous and cannot hold liquids or be used as dinnerware, it is for decor and storage of dry goods only. These pieces should not be left for long periods outside, or inside a window facing the sun, as over time this could affect the brew markings.
